Not sure why you are saying your question was not answered. This is a user forum, where questions are answered by other users like yourself. Sometimes you have to wait. The 2024 software will not be available until late November 2024, and you will have to wait until early 2025 to actually file a 2024 return.

It is July 2024. I have completed my 2023 taxes, and don't need software for this!

Why can we not get 2024 software and slowly start working on it?

Even when the software is released, there are a number of updates; what is the difference in releasing 2024 software now?

I can use 2023 software, but then I will have to redo everything with 2024 software!

Why can we not get 2024 software and slowly start working on it? There are always a number of updates, even in March or April; they are not going to get all the changes anyway!

You cannot get software that is still being written. The IRS has to approve of every new tax year's software before it is released for use on the market. Sorry--you have to wait for the software and wait for the IRS. You also have to wait for the IRS to have the 2024 forms ready.

The software changes each year to comply with the latest changes in tax law. Even in November it will not be a final version and it is usually close to February before filing can start.

nope. even distributors of pro software wait till near year end to issue it. This way they can include any changes in the tax laws, court decisions, IRS pronouncements, etc. It's also a question of economics - fewer updates.

elections are not the reason because the apps come out around the same time in non-election years.

This function was always available.

Even when they finally release Turbo Tax for year 2024 , there will be a number of upgrades. So it is not finish product until you file tax 2025.

It is the middle of the 2024 year. It makes absolutely no sense to prepare a tax return for 2024. If you are looking to estimate taxes for the year 2024, the 2023 tax software provides that capability. Look at the estimated income tax worksheet in the 2023 software.
