Hi - I efiled my 1040 through Turbotax and it has been accepted. I chose the option to make my federal tax payment by cheque. I understand I need to mail a copy of the 1040-V form with the cheque. Do I also need to mail a copy of my 1040 return with this? Thanks!

No, not generally unless instructed to mail a specific form. You can efile your return, then pay by check or pay directly on the IRS website and eliminate a stamp.

IRS direct pay

Hi,

I have done this option for years. You do not need to mail in a copy of your 1040 with the check, however, if you look at the 1040-V, it will state you need to write your social security number on the check. I do not put my full SS# on the check, instead I put ... Form 1040-V #xxxx with the xxxx being the last four digits of my SS#.
