I have an EIN for an inherited Roth IRA in a trust. I received a 1099 R with no taxable income on it. Do I have to file taxes for EIN if I’m positive that I don’t owe taxes on it?

It depends. If there is no other taxable income for the trust then it may not be required to be filed. If there is no other gross taxable income of $600 or more.

Instructions Form 1041

Income that is not taxable (with the exception of tax-exempt interest or dividends) are not reported on Form 1041. Simply distribute those funds in accordance with the terms of the trust.

Keep the records in your estate file.

Thank you. This particular EIN is only attached to my inherited Roth IRA (that is in my name only), it’s within a bigger trust, though. The trust is set up with my mom and then my brother and me. My inherited Roth was set up prior to the SECURE act. The required RMD is the only amount I pulled out and I’m trying to figure out if I need to file with my EIN even though I don’t owe taxes on the RMD.
