I cannot update form 8949 or schedule D

I need to update some figures on a 8949 form. If I try to do it on that form, the only way to do it is to override the numbers. Same deal for schedule D.

If I go to the Easy Step format, I can *add* a new sale but I cannot update an existing one.

Looks like a bug to me. Help!

As you have discovered, you cannot make entries directly on Form 8949 or Schedule D. The information comes from subsidiary forms and worksheets.

Did you import the investment sales? There seem to be some restrictions on changing imported data. See if you can delete the existing sale and reenter it manually.

Even if you originally entered the sale manually, try deleting it and entering it again.

I entered the sale manually and I would LOVE to be able to delete it and start again, but there seems to be no way to do that, either from Easy Step (this portion of Easy Step has a different look and feel from the rest, somehow), or from the forms themselves. Would love to have a step-by-step description of how do do it. thanks

On form 8949 in the TT Business edition, I have long term and short term gains reported on the 1099. In both the categories (ST and LT), the basis was reported to the IRS for a portion of the gains, and not reported on others. There were four entries (two for each category). The information transferred to form 8949 shows all four of these summary entries is showing as "not reported to you on 1099-B". According to the instructions there should be two 8949 forms, one each for "reported" and "not reported" to the IRS. Seems there is a glitch in the program... Any help on this?

You have the option to enter each type of sale from Form 1099-B as a separate transaction rather than a summary entry. This allows you to indicate 1) if the basis was reported and 2) the holding period. The result is two Forms 8949, one with Box A or D, the other with Box C or F.

Yes, but the summary entry should also work the same to properly poulate Form 8949. No issues with last year's edition. It is not behaving this year for whatever reason...
