When asked by the TurboTax program he should have indicated that the child lived in the home for the Whole Year. And there was no one else in the household who supported the child. And when entering the Social Security number of the child he did Not click on the box labeled "Not Valid for Employment".

Hello:

My brother in law is doing his return and is claiming that Turbo Tax says his newborn child (born 8/16/23) does not qualify for a dependent. Why is that? He has lived with him all year and naturally provides all his support.

Please advise.

That's a common problem for users. If you had a child born in 2023 Add them under My Info. You need to answer 2 questions…..

Did your child live with you for the whole year? Answer YES even if they were born late in the year even on Dec 31. And same for how many months in the USA

Then was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO, Child didn't pay for more than half of their living expenses.
