Can we use TurboTax to file a return for someone who died? In this case, it will need to be a full year return and partial year return. What's different from a normal return?

You can use TurboTax to prepare the returns but they will probably have to be mailed in - especially if there is a refund. In that case you will need to mail the returns and attach proof that you are the executor for the estate and entitled to file the return on their behalf.

When you start the return the system will ask you whether the person that you are filing for is deceased and then will ask a number of questions related to that fact. Once you have answered those and then entered all of the return information the system will tell you whether it is eligible for efiling (unlikely) or not and give you mailing instructions.
