Long term gain in 1099-DIV 9 (cash liquidation) - Where does it appear?

I got a cash liquidation distribution from a defunct company. 1099-DIV line 9. That should be treated as a long term gain, but I don't see where it appears on the return.

You don't see it because it doesn't appear anywhere. Amounts entered in Box 9 of Form 1099-DIV do not flow to the tax return. You will have to enter it as an investment sale in the same way you would a transaction reported on Form 1099-B. To enter:

Click on Search and type "Investment sales" in the search window and click Enter
Click on "Jump to Investment sales"
On the page with "Did you sell any investments in 202*?" Answer Yes
Answer No to "Did you get a 1099-B..."
Enter the name of broker that sent the 1099-DIV
On the "Now we'll walk you through entering your sale details" Indicate "Stock" or something else if more appropriate
The interview will walk you through entering the details of the sale

Put this way, that you just enter it manually as if it appeared on a 1099-B, makes complete sense. But TurboTax was incredibly obtuse about what to do. Yes, there was a box that popped up saying I needed to go to the Investment Income section, but that's it. I expected to see some explanation when I went there, but no.

And the final check didn't catch that there was an amount on line 9 that didn't correspond to a stock (or something) transaction.

TurboTax is usually really good at putting things in the right place, but totally failed on this. (Admittedly, there are probably very few taxpayers that run into this.) Intuit, you need to do better.
