Hello, I converted pre-tax 401k to the Traditional IRA in the year of 2022

I converted that money in a Traditional IRA into a Roth IRA in the year of 2023. How do I report it using turbotax desktop?

I intended to convert all the money from a Traditional IRA to Roth IRA, but found about 0.2 dollars is remaining by 12/21/2023 due to a late divide distribution, where do I report this amount?

I received a 1099-R and am aware I need to pay taxes, but wanted to make sure that I won't be charged for penalty.

Thanks!

Just enter the 1099R and answer the questions. It will ask you what you did with it. Say you moved it to another account. What code is in box 7? It will be taxable but there should not be any penalty. It should be straight forward to enter. Be sure to check the little IRA box that's between boxes 7&8.

Enter a 1099R under
Federal Taxes on left
Wages & Income
Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) – Click Start

The number in box 7 is 2. I reported the 1099R in the Wages & Income section.

Do I need to do anything with the section of

Deduction- Retirement and Investments- Traditional and Roth IRA contribution?

No, you do not need to enter anything in the Traditional and Roth IRA contributions section of your return. Converting your Traditional IRA account into a Roth IRA account is not the same thing as making a contribution to the Roth IRA.

If you did make any additional contributions to either type of IRA, then you would report those in the contributions section of your return.

With regard to the .2 dollars left in the Traditional IRA, it does not need to be entered anywhere in your return. It is simply something that is left in your Traditional IRA. If you were to remove it, you would get a Form 1099-R reporting the distribution, but it would have negligible impact on your return for the year that you take the distribution.

@SL12345
