What filing status did you use on the return that was rejected? If the e-file was rejected, yes, you can change your filing status. But if it was a joint return and you are changing to married filing separately, you will need to talk with your spouse so they know that they now have to file MFS too.

Circumstances differ, but for most married couples filing MFJ results in a lower overall tax bill.

The rejection code was F8962-070. He is aware of filing separately. Apparently there was fraud from a marketplace insurance company. My husband received a 1095 and he has insurance through his work and I do also. He has never used said insurance or paid for it.
