why do you think you can't claim your son? you are asking from LIVE for which you paid extra, Contact support about the issue with claiming your son.

Why was it a mistake to claim your 17 year old? Are you not the custodial parent? What is the situation that makes it a mistake?

No one gets the child tax credit for a child who was 17 at the end of 2023, but you still get the $500 credit for other dependents instead.

You can get EIC for a qualified dependent child up to age 19, or even 23 if they are a full-time student.

Thanks. No I didn't claim him accidentally. He is my son I'm his custodial parent. The reason why I asked this because of his age I didn't know if I would have been qualified for the EIC. Now that you have explained it to me I understand now and I didn't make a mistake on claiming him as my dependent. Should have known it was correct wasn't rejected. Just to much different information was being said so I just needed to find out the real facts. Thanks again.
