Yes, you can retrieve your IP PIN from the IRS if you have one and don't have the annual letter. Follow this link to get started.

As posted above, you aren't required to have an IP PIN, but if one has been issued for you, you have to use it when you e-file. If your can't get your IP PIN, printing and mailing in the return is the only option.

An IP PIN is a six digit PIN sent each year by the IRS if a person informed the IRS that they had an identity theft.

When e-filing a federal tax return you will be asked for a 5 digit PIN for filing. The 5 digit PIN can be any 5 numbers that you select and can be changed by the taxpayer each year. What identifies the taxpayer to the IRS is the prior year Adjusted Gross Income. You need the 2022 AGI to e-file which is found on the 2022 federal tax return Form 1040 on Line 11.

You are not required to have a 6 digit IP PIN. Some people request them from the IRS to prevent identity theft and fraud. If you did not request one, you will not have one and do not have to enter an IP PIN.

If IRS REJECTS your e-File for IP PIN, it means the IRS assigned you an IP PIN.

you can go to the IRS website to retreive it.

You have to register with ID.me first.

You still have the option to mail it without the IP PIN. in which case expect processing delays.

@bbayne2018
