I normally do my family's taxes. There are five of us. One of the family members taxes were rejected due to an error in the SS#. When I corrected the number and am trying to resend it, it is now stating I've reached the e-file limit of 5 returns.

My transmission didn't go through.

I know this year we are required to register our software.

Has anyone encountered this issue?

Someone please help.

Correct...yes it's an old issue with TTX software...I don't think they'll correct now, but some year they might. (I don't actually know if it is an actual TTX issue, or something the IRS requires)

IF you e-file one tax return and it gets rejected for a wrong SSN....that ends up as counting as one e-file...when you correct it, it then goes in as a separate new count on the e-file limit.

But a rejected e-file for other non-SSN reasons, when corrected and re-e-filed still counts as the one same e-file count number...not a new count-up.

______

Thus, any more would need to be printed and paper-mail filed. Signed-dated...W-2s and any other documents with tax withholding, attached.

Thus, if you are ever going to be anywhere near the 5-file max, make sure you e-file the most complex tax return first...usually your own...the parents. Then work on the kids later, even though they may be simpler.

Thank you very much @SteamTrain .

I've never had this issue before when having to correct information. Usually, it's a DOB, SS#, or last name that needs to be corrected within my five applications. I make the corrections, and then I resubmit without a problem. The problem I am facing is that now I may need to purchase additional software with a license, which would NOT BE OK. I am hoping someone from Intuit is seeing this.

And maybe one of the simple ones can use the Online Free Edition or the IRS Free file. But if you have to print and mail one from the Desktop program at least you won't pay the state efile fee.

I was just on the phone with TT for 1-1/2 hours re this issue. I prepared my 5th return (for my daughter), and it got rejected for e-filing because of incorrect AGI. She filed late last year and probably the IRS had not processed her return by December 10. When I tried to re e-file with a 0 AGI (as shown in the instructions), her return was rejected again because I was over the 5 limit. I was told by the TT representative that every time I try to e-file, that counts as one even if it was the same return.

I've had the same problem -- i.e. I do my family's return and because I submitted my son's return and it got rejected because it needed an IPPIN. That's the only thing that changed after the return was rejected and got the 5 e-file return limit. I called TurboTax Help Line and was told it's the IRS that doesn't allow it, but I also think the software does not allow it since it counted it as a submission.

So we get the pleasure of snail mailing this thing to the IRS.

While I understand the need to ensure that submissions are legitimate, I think both the IRS and Intuit do not make this simpler IMHO.

There is a new limit of 5 e-files per license, not just per laptop.

You need another TT account to hold a new license. Or you can always file by mail.

You would need another license installed on a computer that has never had the old license on it (I tried to delete and remove an old license and downloaded a new one and it still erred). Possibly a full removal of old license would work but, I did not try it.

Take the file you have been working on sign into the new license, under HELP on the top of your screen choose Switch product. Here is where you assign the new license and it signs you out. Then call up that return and save it with the new license assigned,

Then you need a thumb drive. You need to copy and paste using file manager the .tax file to a thumb drive.

Then copy from that thumb drive to the new laptop with the new TT install on it.

Call it up, you now have a new license and using the new account, you should be able to e-file.

Yes, you will have to pay for another license.

@AnaMariaGonzalez5522 I don't work for TT, please mark this solved.
