That is not correct. Both the 1040 and the 1040 SR forms can be efiled. There must be some other reason why TurboTax is telling you it can't be efiled. Click on Review to see if there are other forms that are not yet available in TurboTax.

You misunderstood something. A 1040SR can be e-filed. If you are having a problem e-filing, it might be because you are missing some forms.

Maybe you are waiting for some forms. Click Review to see if you are missing some forms needed in order to e-file.

Many federal and state forms are not yet available. Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.

Tax form availability tool,

The IRS will begin to accept/reject 2023 e-files on January 29. And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

Evidently there is an issue this year with e-filing returns that TT classifies as 1040-SR forms (even though they contain the same information as a 1040). I got the same message as I tried to e-file today and was informed by TT desktop that I couldn't e-file and would have to submit a paper return. After posting a question to this forum asking why TT couldn't e-file the return using the 1040 format, I got this reply from CatinaT1, Employee Tax Expert, a few minutes ago: "This is a known issue in TurboTax and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. As soon as we have a resolution for you, it'll be shared on Community. The issue is scheduled to be resolved end of 1/31. Please do not file prior to 2/1." I hope that's correct.
