A Joint return is one return combined for the both of you. Do you mean which spouse is listed first as primary? It doesn't matter but you should be consistent each year. And a spouse is never a dependent. Enter both under My Info. Pay attention when entering W2 and 1099 forms to pick the right spouse.

When you are filing as Married Filing Jointly, you enter both of your names and Social Security numbers on the tax return. You enter income received for each of you, by name, on only one tax return. You file only one tax return so it is not relevant for which spouse files.

When filing a joint return, both your income and deductions and your spouse's income and deductions are all reported on a single tax return. You can decide between the two of you which one will actually enter the information into TurboTax. No matter which one does the work, when it is electronically filed you are both responsible for the contents of the joint tax return.
