Since FL has no state income tax, the box 17 should be empty. Assuming that is the case just delete/do not enter a line for FL in the W2 form.

If that is not the case you can enter the federal ID number with no dashes or spaces in the state ID box which should allow you to clear that error.

Several states do not have a state income tax. So these states will not show up in certain drop down lists. Leave boxes 15, 16, and 17 blank when you enter a W-2 for these states.

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming

FLORIDA

Florida does not have a state income tax. You should have skipped the FL tax unless you own rental property in FL or a FL based business.

Florida has a tangible personal property tax form that is used in a Florida-located business or rental property and is filed with the county property appraiser by April 1st.

If you do need to file a Form DR-405, nothing will print (except an instruction sheet) unless assets were transferred or you manually entered assets in the DR-405 worksheet.

If you do not have tangible personal property to report, choose Skip State in the State Taxes section.

If you proceeded past the warning screens, try deleting the Florida return --> https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900608

If you actually already paid for an unnecessary FL return:

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

Thanks for your response. Just to be clear, are you saying to leave the state blank even though it's showing FL on the W-2 in Box 15 that I received? If that's the case, won't that flag the return at the IRS?

No. The IRS knows that FL has no state income tax. And the IRS is concerned with your federal tax, not your state tax.
