Form 8936 inaccuracy?

I am working on my 2023 return, and found that when completing form 8936 for the credit from purchasing an electric vehicle, TurboTax’s software states that the vehicle must have been purchased new to get the credit. It also gives an error message if you enter a service entry date before the date you bought the vehicle (again, implying the vehicle must be purchased new).

I researched this on the IRS’s website, and the IRS states that used vehicles qualify as well. Used vehicles require the same form, form 8936, so I’m wondering if this is an error on the part of TurboTax? I’m hoping I don’t have to go file my taxes elsewhere.

Form 8936 is not yet ready for filing. It is tentatively expected to be available February 22. (That date could change.) Try again after February 22.
