E-filing is not open yet. TurboTax will allow users to begin e-filing sometime on January 4. E-filing the second that they open it up is a bad idea, but sadly that does not stop some people from going ahead anyway.

Users who rush to file early often end up under review or file with mistakes that require them to amend later. If you file before the IRS is accepting returns, your return just sits on a server, where you will be powerless to fix any mistakes you discover after you file. No changes can be made when your return is pending on a server. And….every year…..Every. Year. …..we get users who want to know how to fix their incorrect e-filed returns that are sitting on the server.

Do not try to prepare a tax return without ALL of your income documents; you must include every 2023 W-2 on the same tax return. Employers have until the end of January to issue W-2’s. Wait until you have all of your W-2’s. Clients, schools, Social Security, banks and other financial institutions may not have tax documents available until late January/early February. ALL of your tax documents must be entered on the same Form 1040; do not file unless you have entered everything.

Hi,

I am trying to submit my W2 and NEC forms online through turbotax. They are ready, but the button to file them is grayed out.

Will this button be available soon?

Thanks.

......or are you trying to prepare W-2 and 1099-NEC forms to send to your employees and contractors?

That's a different question......yeah?

Personally, I'm not sure whether that part is active yet...might also be 4-5 Jan, or maybe a week or 2 later?
