Can I pay a TurboTax professional to utilize Modernized E-File service for my 2021 tax refund?

I somehow never filed my 2021 tax return but 2022 and 2020 were filed. I never have to pay taxes and I’ve always gotten a refund so 2021 was the same.

I was hoping I could pay a TurboTax professional to utilize the Modernized E-File service to send/process my 2021 tax refund faster than mail.

I’ve already filled out my taxes using the 2021 TurboTax software I purchased. I just need to file or mail them but wanted to investigate MeF incase it was possible.

If TurboTax doesn’t offer it how can I find a provider who does?

Sorry no efile from Turbo Tax for prior years. You would have to find someone else if they can still efile. Maybe a local CPA or Enrolled Agent, etc. But they would need to use their own program an input everything from scratch. Otherwise you are stuck with mailing it.

The tax year 2021 federal tax return can only be printed and mailed when using TurboTax, it cannot be e-filed.

Tax professional software will allow the e-filing of 2021 federal tax returns, but you would have to pay a local tax professional to complete and e-file the 2021 return.

Note - The IRS is not accepting any e-filed tax returns until they open e-filing for the 2023 returns which should be sometime in either mid to late January 2024.

Thanks for the information. It’s what I was expecting.

Since i’ve already filled out my returns, should I go ahead and mail them, or wait for MeF to open back up and find a local tax professional?

The choice is yours. If you want to pay for a tax professional or just pay postage for mailing. Either way the tax return will be sent to the IRS for processing.
