Hi, I have Turbotax 2023 and I always fill out the taxes self-directed, meaning I do NOT use easy step. This year, I cannot find the option to do the self-directed option?

Are you using the Desktop installed program? The Online version doesn't have that feature. In the Desktop program click on Forms in the upper right for Windows or left for Mac. It's not called self directed, it's either step by step interview or enter directly on the Forms. But you really shouldn't enter directly on the forms. You may not be able to efile and it invalidates the guarantee.

Desktop has always had a menu mode. Don't they this year?

You know...when you start in on the Wages&Income area, and then select either:

a) "Walk me thru everything" (which is step-by-step)

or b) "I'll choose what I work on" which gets you the full page menu of items (which I term as being self-directed)

........though, I admit,,...there are steps within each of the menu items you select.

So I guess it depends on what you meant

As I refuse to start installing and using Desktop while it's still in this early "beta" mode, I'm not sure how they start out this year on the Desktop software.

@SteamTrain You replying to me or the op? I haven't seen the Desktop program yet for 2023. I buy mine at Costco in Jan on sale. I assume it's the same as before? I assumed he was asking about using the Forms mode. You might be right about meaning selecting Walk me through everything or I'll choose what to work on.

Thanks Everyone, I meant the "I'll choose what I want to work on..." pages or mode on the desktop application. I couldn't find it this year. Maybe you're right that I have to wait a bit?

"I'll choose what I work on" is there, the same as in past years. You will see it if you click on the "Wages & Income" tab or the "Deductions & Credits" tab. (The tabs are different in Home & Business.) I don't know why you're not seeing it.

"I'll choose what I work on" is part of the Step-by-Step interview. It's just a different way of going through the interview topics, instead of going through everything in sequence.

Hi VolvoGirl,

I've followed and appreciated your posts over the years. I also purchase TT Deluxe at Costco, and this year the product seems to have some new bugs. I've posted these under the subject: Business Expenses Data Entry Bug, and would be interested to know if you have observed the same thing.
