topic ACA and Dependent Confusion in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Confused by the ACA and dependent status.

We had an ACA health plan for 2018 for a family of 4. This included my daughter who was 23 when the plan was selected in December 2017 to start in 2018. Subsequently she turned 24 in the summer of 2018 and is no longer a dependent for tax purposes for tax year 2018 (out of school and working).

Do I have to select the option "Shared this policy with another taxpayer who is not on my taxes" and report her AGI?

Seems like healthcare.gov should have alerted us that while she was eligible for insurance and premium savings this would come back during tax time.

Or am I missing something here???

Thanks

Yes, you will select "Shared this policy with another taxpayer who is not on my taxes"

No, you will not need to include her AGI

As you walk through the steps you will need to then allocate the premiums, SLCSP and APTC.

I followed your direction and selected Shared this policy with another taxpayer who is not on my taxes and then entered 100% for premium, SLCSP and APTC. I was expecting my taxes to increase but nothing changed. Does that sound right?

Yes, that sounds right if you were paying the full premiums, but the SLCSP should not be 100%. That part needs to be allocated using healthcare.gov calculator for SLCSP

OK, so I've followed all of this and now completing return for my daughter. It appears I need to enter the 1095-A info on her return as well, is this correct? And do I enter all four family members (4 rows) along with the A, B, C columns. PS - when I put in the ACA plan number my name popped up in row one with my daughter's ss# and birthday. Guess I can change that but seemed odd.
