Great questions!!!

I am going to assume that you are wondering what is the maximun age for claiming a dependent on your return who is a student. ( fyi students do not need to live at home to be your dependent)

You can claim a dependent who is under 24 years old and is a student. If that student is 24 years or older and makes less than $4400 (2022 number), then they can be claimed as a Qualifying relative. This is as long as you pay more than half of their support. There are other requirements too. Here are the basics:

https://apps.irs.gov/app/vita/content/globalmedia/4491_dependency_exemptions.pdf

The IRS has an interview that you can use to determine who can be claimed as a dependent.

https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/whom-may-i-claim-as-a-dependent

Please give me a thumbs up if this was helpful.

Katie S.
