A employer ID is a a 9 digit number. If you are an employee that receives a W-2 then you must enter the employer EIN as reported on the W-2.

What box on what form? Is it for W2 box d? The control number in box d is not required by the IRS - it is used by your employer. As a result, if it causing you trouble, just delete it. If it is not causing you trouble, then leave it in - it won't matter.
