Hi dnajjar20,

So your tax refund was a little more than you thought you'd get?

If the difference was nominal, say $1 - $40, it could be interest. When the IRS is late paying you back your refund, they pay you interest. You can confirm it is interest by checking your account at irs.gov, like evelynm and Cindy4 have mentioned.

I received more from the IRS for the 2022 tax return than I thought I was going to receive. What should I do? Did I make a mistake and they figured it differently and gave me more? How do I contact the IRS about this?

You may want to get a transcript from the IRS to match up amounts reported on your tax return including taxes paid. Here is the link: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Hi @dnagger20!

Typically when the IRS adjusts refunds they will send out a follow up letter that may indicate what the difference is from.

You can go online here and access you account and tax return transcripts to review for any changes made by them.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

You can also give them a call to discuss at 800-829-1040, but be prepared to wait a bit to speak to a representative.

Hope this helps!

Cindy
