If you are filing a 2019 tax return then you use the statement of earning for 2019.

I know I am probably making this more difficult than is necessary but I am attempting to do my 2019 tax return before the July 17 cut off.

I have a statement of earnings from my pension and it has printed on it "Tax Year 2019". Is this the statement I should use for my 2019 return or is it a statement of the pay-out made in 2019 that would be used in my 2020 return?

I worked for a company in 2019 but the only W-2 I can find is for 2018. Is this the W-2 I should use for filing my 2019 return?

My SSA-1099 says "may be taxable in income for 2019"

I've got this all scrambled up in my head and if you can assist my I would be forever grateful.

The year goes by Jan 1 - Dec 31. If you are doing a 2019 return you report all your income for 2019. Wages for 2019 and Social Security. Don't get confused by the year when you file it like in April of the next year. Like a 2019 return is filed in April 2020. This year in 2023 we filed our 2022 returns for the year ending 12/31/2022.

You need a W2 that says 2019 on it, not a 2018 W2. 2018 income should have been filed in April 2019, but it is still a 2018 tax return. You enter a 2019 SSA-1099 on your 2019 return.

Hope that doesn't confuse you more. Don't worry about what year it is filed.
