I am about to start a new job and have to fill out a new W-4. I am noticing since the last time I filled out a W-4 (2016) the form has completely changed and it looks like I no longer have to figure out claiming 0 or 1. I have reviewed the 2023 W-4 and it looks like I only need to fill out the top personal information section (name address etc) along with stating I am filing "Single". It does not seem like I need to fill out any of the other sections 2, 3 or 4 since I am single, hold only one job and have no children / dependents. I don't think section 4 would apply to me either since I do not have other adjustments. Does thus mean I would just skip right to section 5 and sign? It almost seems too easy (I was prepared to ask whether I should claim 1 or 0, but that is no longer applicable), that's why I wanted a refresher.

Hello there!

Congratulations on the job! Depending on your situation, that is correct. The instructions do indicated that only to complete sections 2-4 only if they apply you. Here is a link that will explain it further. https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/irs-tax-forms/form-w-4-and-your-take-home-pay/L4VSEhPez

It definitely has changed a lot since 2016 and I'm happy you were able to ask your question. Please let me know if you need more information!
