I recently got a second part time job that requires me to fill out a W4. Annually I'll be making less in this part time job than my full time job. The job does not have a required number of hours to work for a week, month, or year and the pay fluctuates based on the shifts you pick up. How do I fill out my W4 for this job and update my W4 for my full time job?

@Val_B Thanks for the question!

So the income from 2nd job is going to fluctuate throughout the year - this could mean you need to adjust your W4 more than once during the year. I would take your best estimate of how much you will make in the 2nd job for the year and add it to the rest of your number and input them on our W4 Calculator That should let you know if you need to add to your withholdings on one of the jobs.

Hope that helps!

Hi Val_B,

When you have a 2nd job and the hours you work are going to vary significantly, this makes estimating the amount to withhold difficult.

I highly recommend our W-4 calculator as many people find that helpful.
