I was investigating if the deductions I entered in tax year 2017 made any difference in our return (it appears they didn't, because we ended up with the standard deduction). Anyway, I made a copy of the TT file, and removed deductions. Each time I removed a deduction (and clicked Done), the total tax return remained the same.

1) When I finished removing the amount of a deduction, if that had an effect on the tax return amount, the Federal Refund amount would have changed (on screen), is that correct (i.e., I would be able to tell if the deduction removal had an effect)?

2) When I quit TurboTax, it asked if I wanted to save changes. Had I chosen to not save changes, would all the changes I made have been not committed to the file?

thanks
