THIRD PARTY DESIGNEE PROGRAMMING TEAM

I prepared a SR-1040 for an older relative and put my name and telephone number as the Third Party Designee, however, I DID NOT check the required YES box on the form. When I printed the paper tax return my name and telephone number didn't appear on the paper return and I did not notice before the relative signed the return and I mailed it. I would never of known about this issue unless the relative received a formal Notice from the IRS and when I called I was not listed as the Third Party Designee. My check of the paper copy of the SR-1040 showed the YES box was not checked and while my name and telephone number were shown in TT tax file they did not show on the printed paper return.

SUGGESTION:

1. Program an error check / reminder into TurboTax to remind preparer to check YES box when either Designee Name and/or Telephone is entered into Turbo Tax Third Party Designee Section. Also, could reminder to enter either Designee Name or Telephone Number if one entered and not other field is not completed.

2. Didn't check the reverse situation where YES box is checked and no Designee Name or Telephone Number entered. Might also include an error check / reminder for this situation.
