Wow, thanks. If I have that pins then whatever is happening with the prior year's return should not matter? I've tried e-filing with the IRS pin but am still being rejected. Could it be a TT5 digit pin getting in the way and/or does the prior year not matter? I understand that a mailed in amended 2021 return for some reason can't be e-file a 2021 (2019 & 2020 yes but not 2021).)

I contacted the IRS the other day (thru ID.me) and received a new 6 digit pin. I understand that this pin must go with each return. If this is the case then why would there be a need for a self created 5 digit pin? How do I remove that 5 digit pin from my returns.

Secondly I am receiving rejections when submitting 2022 returns because 2021 returns were incorrect, I am amending 2021 but have not yet submitted them. I understand 2021 cannot be e-filed and have to be mailed. As long as the IRS 6 digit pin is on 2021 (to be mailed) and 2022 (trying to e-file) there should be no problem?

1 more question. I have been trying to use both Chrome then Edge (or visa versa) with no luck. Is one better to use than the other?

An aggravating multi-tier dilemma . . .

If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file. Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.

Not sure why you think your 2022 is being rejected because of an "incorrect" 2021 return. However, it could be related to the AGI you are using, since the IRS may not have your 2021 AGI in the system. Try using zero as your 2021 AGI when it asks for AGI.

I want to change last year's AGI to zero but can't find where it is asked for so where on the 2022 1040SR is it asked for? Does it matter that on the 2 year comparison pages (and elsewhere?) that what was on 2021 is listed? I am amending 2021 (have not submitted yet) so everything in the 2021 columns (of the 2022 return) is incorrect.
