Every 2022 W-2 that you received must be reported on your 2022 tax return, even if they are for small amounts. Remember that each one of those W-2’s has your Social Security number on it, and that income was reported to the IRS by the employer. You do not want to get in trouble with the IRS for under-reporting your income.

ALL of your W-2’s must be entered on the SAME tax return.

Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2.

After you enter the first one, you click Add Another W-2.

W-2's come from your employer, and they have until January 31 to issue it. Some employers allow you to import the W-2 through the software, but for security reasons you still need information from the actual W-2 to import it. You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

You can add another W-2 to your tax return by uploading the form.

Follow the instructions below.

TurboTax Online

Sign in and continue your return
Select the magnifying glass, search for W-2 and select the Jump to link
Select Work on my W-2 and Continue
- If you've already entered a W-2 or need to add another one, select Add another W-2
Enter your Employer Identification Number (EIN) from Box b on your W-2
- If your W-2 can be imported, you'll come to the Great news! We can automatically import your W-2 info screen. Answer the questions to complete your import.
- If TurboTax doesn't recognize your EIN you can use the TurboTax mobile app to snap a photo of your W-2, upload it from your computer, or fill it in yourself.

Your payroll provider needs to be a TurboTax Import Partner
Your W-2 must be available for import. Most are ready by February 1 and some are disabled after the filing deadline
We need the Box 1 amount from your W-2 or the year-to-date YTD gross income from your year-end pay stub
In some cases, we'll need the Box d Control Number from your W-2, but only if your payroll provider requires it
