If my daughter was my dependent, but died in 2018, and lived for those 4 months in her own place, do I file as head of household or single?

My daughter was my dependent for years (She had no job, and I paid all her expenses), but she died in 2018. For those 4 months she lived in her own apartment (paid for by me). I entered 0 months to question about how long she lived with me. Turbotax shows my status as head of household, rather than single. Is that correct?

This is something that is being looked into. It seems as though when you put a dependent is deceased it is automatically switching the time they lived with you to the whole year if you answer yes to the question did you maintain a household. So, the work around for right now is to select edit next to your filing status then select that you want to change your filing status and then choose single.

No, in order to not live in the same household as you and allow you to claim head of household, she would have had to be a parent. Please revisit your answers to be sure you did not select parent. TurboTax should not be giving you the Head of Household status.

That cite says "Even if your father or mother did not live with you for more than half of the tax year, you may still qualify to file as head of household."
However, it is her daughter that lived elsewhere, so she does not qualify for HOH.
