8453 is just a cover sheet.

if you check the last box 8949, then your consolidated 1099-B from broker is considered an acceptable substitute for the missing details,

@Sorakairi89

Hi, I had filed my taxes online e-filing and because on form 8949 I didn't list all my security transactions as single transactions along with the wash sales, I was told I need to physically mail in Form 8453. I am looking at this form at the IRS website and I am wondering, am I allowed to just fill out this form 8453 and then physically attach my 1099-B that I received from my mutual fund to show the transactions? I feel that would be so much easier than writing out all the steps such as date acquired, how much it sold for, etc. Is this allowed?

Note:

for Box A and Box D,. only wash sale details or other adjustments have to be supplied in detail to IRS.

unfortunately the broker won't put that on a separate sheet for you.

For example, if you have only one wash sale, send in that page of 1099-B report.

if you have no wash sales or other adjustments, no mailing is necessary.

there is no detail exception for the other Boxes.

@Sorakairi89

I filled out 8949 but just put a summary of my wash sales and transactions.

But my 1099-B has details on each transaction and the wash sales split up.
Does that information alone if I print my statement suffice for the 8453 or do I have to write anything?

Sorry I am trying to understand your last response because you said something about my broker not supplying that information that I need to do myself, but to the best that I can see, I think the info is already there?

if your wash sales are separated out, that's more than my broker will do for me.

only transactions with adjustments have to be detailed.

you can avoid mailing by entering each wash sale separately (not aggregated) yourself if they are few in number

then verify the numbers on Schedule D Line 1a and 1b still add up to the grand totals on your consolidated 1099-B.

what you have now should meet this cross-check.

@Sorakairi89

.

what you have now should meet this cross-check.

so just printing and mailing one sheet may be the simplest way to finish your schedule D filing.

@Sorakairi89

Thank you so much for helping me out. I wasn't aware that I could just print my statement information and attach it to my 8453. It makes it a lot easier than having to write it all out.

I unfortunately did my efiling with a summary of transactions....so now have to mail this in physically. But now it doesn't seem so bad if I'll I have to do is just print the info.
