1099 Misc

I worked for a catholic school and lost my job there. I received unemployment from the Church Unemployment Program. I entered the amount on other income line. Now I'm getting asked questions if I participated in my business when was the business started etc... It wasn't a business. Do I need to enter this somewhere else?

Did they give you a 1099-MISC or a 1099-NEC? If it's a 1099-MISC, which box is the payment in?

Yes, you will enter your 1099-MISC as Other Income so it will not be considered self-employment or business income. First you should make sure that if you created a business, that you delete it. Follow the instructions below:

Launch TurboTax
You want to make sure that if you created a business earlier, that you delete it:
- Select Wages & Income
- Scroll down to Self-employment Income and select Review (If it says Start, skip this)
- You may see your 1099-MISC here so delete it by clicking on the trash can on the right
- Confirm that you want to delete and select Done
Scroll down to Other Common Income
Select Start or Revisit 1099-MISC and add 1099-MISC
Go through the interview questions which will ask you to describe the income. When you get to the screen that ask you Does one of these common situations apply? select None of these apply. You will also select No that it didn’t involve work and No it didn’t involve the intent to earn money.
