Using TT desktop, the final review shows that I have a Form 8915 error - "you indicated there were retirement distributions related to a disaster.... It requires part 1 of form 8915-F which has not been finalized yet. Do not file return until this part of calculation is finalized in upcoming release"

I have gone through all of my IRA entries and made sure each answer NO in the question "was this a withdrawal due to a 2021 or 2022 disaster" I notice that every time I review the IRA entries, that is the only section that does not remember my entry and I need to click the "no" bullet. I have deleted and re-entered each IRA, saving the return after each. It still comes up as an error.

The form itself is prepopulated with a check in the box for a disaster in calendar year 2020. The form does not allow me to edit or delete it. My recollection is that when I started a few days ago the disaster section was different and also referred to other years and possibly had a question about COVID.

How do I get rid of this error?

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Download:

On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online"

Select "Send Tax File to Agent"

Click "Send"

The pop-up will have a token number

Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

If you took a disaster distribution in 2020, the form will auto-generate. If you did not take the distribution, you can delete the Form or if it regenerates, you told TurboTax you did take the distribution somewhere in the program. Search for 1099-R and use the Jump to 1099-R link. You should land on the 1099-R summary screen. Click Done or Continue at the bottom. The next screens are where you can change your answers to the prior year distribution questions. @pouranshir

I had the same problem and it drove me crazy. What I did was go to FORMS and delete the 8915F worksheet and 8915F Form. Somehow that form became part of my return making TTax think I had used it and wanted me to show what I had paid as a diaster relief payment. These Forms 8915 E and F have been a real PITA and I don't know why TTax can't fix the problem. Once I deleted the form and worksheet TTax didn't want anymore diaster relief info.

You don't need to edit or review the 1099-R forms - the questions are not asked during the form entry - they are asked AFTER entering the 1099-R forms. Click Done or Continue at the bottom of the summary page to get to the questions you need to answer NO on. See below for the screens you are looking for. There are multiple screens you must say NO on. After you confirm you answer NO here, you can delete the form. If all of those screens are NO, then you told TurboTax one of your 1099-Rs was used to payback a prior year distribution. You may want to delete your 2 forms and re-enter them - sometimes entries get stuck and deleting them is the only way to fix it.

Here is a workaround provided by expert DanaB27 that is working-

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully. Try both options if necessary.

Please try these steps to fix the issue:

Login to your TurboTax Account

Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”

Click on “Jump to 1099-R”

If you do not have any 2022 1099-R, answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R, then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R, click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info ” screen)

Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen

Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"

Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue

On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen, I selected the blank entry and clicked "back"

Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020, check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

Open or continue your return in TurboTax.

Select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools" in the left menu.
