This is the full message. I am not able to go back into the 8915-F and correct this according to the message below. Can anyone help?

This return cannot be electronically filed due to invalid information on Form 8915-F, Qualified Disaster Retirement Plan Distributions and Repayments. Print your return and review information that appears on Form 8915-F: - If there is a FEMA number listed on line C, it must be a valid. federally declared disaster n number, and it must be formatted as XX-NNNN-ST, where XX is either DR or EM, NNNN is a four digit number, and ST is a valid state abbreviation. - If box D is checked, no FEMA number should be listed on line C. If corrections are needed, go to Federal Taxes / Income, then scroll down to the section on Retirement, and select the 1099-R topic. If you have 1099-R entries, go to the end of the 1099-R summary, and select Continue. If you do not have any 1099-R entries for the current year, answer no when you see the question, Did you receive any 1099-R Forms? Then click continue. Follow the steps below to correct invalid information: 1) Answer on-screen questions until you get to the screen. "Did You take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?" 2) Mark the yes box at the top of the screen. 3) If you need to correct the FEMA Number that appears on Form 8915-F, line C, you must clear the checkbox labeled "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here". Then proceed to the next screen, where you can select a valid FEMA number. Click continue. If you need to clear the FEMA Number, go back and select the blank entry at the top of the FEMA dropdown list. 4) If necessary, go back to the screen in step 1, and check the box to indicate that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution. After making corrections, print for 8915-F and review information on lines C and D. Review for errors and re-submit the return for electronic filing. If the reject continues, you will need to print and file the return by mail.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

Login to your TurboTax Account

Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”

Click on “Jump to 1099-R”

If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)

Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen

Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"

Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue

On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back"

Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

Open or continue your return in TurboTax.

In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".

In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".

Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.

Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

I found a solution for this and can confirm it worked for me. Before I explain the solution, let me provide some context to my situation...

1) we utilized a COVID distribution in 2020 and spread across 3 years with 8915-E / F.

2) utilized TurboTax Online in 2022 for filing 2021 with no issues.

* Line C had "COVID" in it.

* Line D was checked.

3) I was receiving similar issues and errors with the 8915-F form causing the rejection

NOTE: my issue when filing this years was that in Line C, "COVID" was present and the eFile did NOT like it for some reason. (IRS eFile logic must have changed since last year)

My solution was as follows:

1) go to Wages Tab

2) go to the Retirement section with 1099-R mentioned.

3) when you get to the point where it asks for "if this was a covid distribution", UNCHECK it and select continue.

4) it will ask you to select the drop down item that represents the FEMA item in question. select something random. I selected the top one with Alabama (even though that wasnt applicable to me). finish filling out the rest as normal. None of the monetary values initially saved should have changed in this process. Once this section is done, click the blue button for Finish and move to next section or something like that to save the retirement section we just edited.

5) now, go back to the retirement section and click "revisit" like we just did.

6) go through the steps until you reach the section about "is this a covid relief" check box section again. Click next, and change the drop down from the previous selected (mine was alabama FEMA) and re select the blank option in the drop down.

7) now go BACK to the previous page USING THE BACK BUTTON ON TURBO PAGE, and check the box for "this was a covid relief item"... or whatever it says.

😎 finish the rest as normal.

9) attempt to re-file.

NOTE: if you review your tax return during the "lets eFile" process, you should see in your 8915 form that line C is now BLANK, and Line D is CHECKED.

after that, it should go through without being rejected.

Hello, Had the same problem, and I used the ""Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" "option from your post, and following through with the rest of your instructions DID remove the "Coronavirus" entry from line C on the return. I have resubmitted the return and it HAS been accepted by the IRS. Thank you for your post!

None of the options worked for me. Even selecting the blank entry in step 8. However I played around with it:

On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected any choice and click "continue".

Click "back" and select the blank from the drop down, then proceed as normal.

You can to got the print center and keep downloading the tax forms until it looks right and then submit.

So, one of these three methods should work. 🙂

same rejection. I love that it tells you to correct it but the program doesn't allow for the manual corrections it is telling you to make.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

Sign into your online account.

Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.

A drop-down will appear. Select Tools

On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”

This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.

Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

Open your return.

Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”

This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.

Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

Try the steps listed in the link below to clear the errors, but FIRST delete the 8915 E for BOTH you and your spouse. If you do not delete both of them it will not work.

After deleting BOTH 8915-E, you should see that 8915-F is gone too.

After you see both forms are gone, walk back through and follow the steps listed here and below by Champ DoninGA. After doing this I was able to clear the errors on your scrubbed return. But, the biggest thing was deleting BOTH forms and walk through ALL of the questions for the distribution for ALL of the years back to 2018.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

Login to your TurboTax Account

Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”

Click on “Jump to 1099-R”

If you do not have a 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)

Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

@kobels

On the top black ribbon, click “View”.

In the dropdown, click “Forms”.

Scroll down the left column, click “8915?-T Wks” (not “Form 8915?-T”), where “?” is your Form based on your original filing (likely “E”, “F”, or “G”).

At the top of the worksheet you will see “A FEMA Disaster number” and the value “Coronavirus”, and “B Coronavirus-related distributions” with the boxed checked (“X”).

Place your cursor in the box with the value “Coronavirus” and backspace to erase that value.

You can click in the left column on “Form 8915?-T”. “C FEMA number (1)” should now be blank, and “D” should have a checked box.

You will need to do the same for “8915?-S Wks” and “Form 8915?-S” if your spouse also has/had the Qualified Disaster Retirement Plan Distribution and Repayments.

On the black ribbon you can then click “View”.

In the dropdown, click “Step-by-Step” to return to the interview process and ultimately file your return.
