I divorced in June of 2022 and Turbo Tax says I over fund my HSA. However, from what I understand the contribution amount remains the same for the time I was married. I immediately changed my contribution amount going forward but I don't know how to update this in turbo tax. How can I tell turbo tax that it should take this time into consideration.

you'll need to indicate family coverage for the months you had it and self only coverage afterward. that would likely require o to indicate that you had different plan types during the year in the interview process.

I appreciate the response. Its not clear in the UI how to break this up nor does it show away to indicate family plan.

Yes, Mike9241 is correct, you need to show which months you had family coverage and which months you had self-only coverage. This is how to do that in TurboTax:

Open you return and select Federal.

Select Deductions & Credits.

Scroll down the list to find Medical, expand the section.

Click Start or Revisit to the right of HSA, MSA Contributions.

Select the type of plan you have, click Continue.

Continue through the screens until you get to, Was (name) covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2022?

Select Yes, and I had different plans types at different times of the year.

Continue, on the next screen select the coverage type for each month.

Click on Calculate Max Contribution Limit, then click Continue.
