topic NJ Nonresident Tax Return in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I am a Florida resident who started working remotely for a NJ-based company starting mid-2022. Due to a payroll set up issue, my company has been withholding NJ state tax from me for 6 months out of the year. What are the appropriate next steps myself or my company need to take for the incorrect tax withholdings to be recovered? What specific tax forms do I need to complete through TurboTax to recover this amount? Do I need to provide a justification for the errors and is there a chance it will not be accepted?

I also noticed my company was withholding NJ tax from October-December 2020. Can anything be done about these past errors?

It is not a problem. You should file a NJ-Non-Resident to recoup the NJ withholdings. How do I file state taxes on TurboTax?

TurboTax Online

Sign in to TurboTax.

On the Your 2021 federal return was accepted! ...

Now select Add a state (this reopens your return) ...

Select State from the left menu (on mobile devices, tap in the upper-left corner to open the menu)

Follow the interview questions for the state and it will prepare the appropriate return for you.
