Have submitted e-file, and both times Feds reject saying the EIN on my W2G (gambling winnings) filings is not recognized. Double/triple checked and all entries correct (exact match in Turbo Tax forms to what's on paper). Took to my casino, and they confirmed EIN correct (same as last year and year before, etc.); and they confirm on my Turbo tax form printout I entered correctly - both name and EIN. Their accountant on duty said that he had two other customers who also used Turbo Tax say their returns (efile through TurboTax) were rejected by Feds. Accountant says that the only folks getting rejection (to his knowledge) are TurboTax e-filers / and that others have successfully e-filed. Any solution other than to print and manually file? Will Intuit investigate and correct their software? I've used Turbo Tax for 10+ years and have been very happy - this is first problem I've ever run across.

The EIN and the name of the payer are the key components that the IRS is checking through e-file for identity of the payer. Only they can tell you the actual name that is listed with the IRS.

You can enter the winnings without using the W-2G by following the steps below. The most important action is that all of your income is recorded on the tax return. The IRS already has copies of the W-2G in their possession so entering them in the software is a convenience. And if there is any federal (and/or state) withholding you can enter that as well.

Sign into your TurboTax Account

Click on Continue where I left off

On the left side screen, select Federal then Wages & Income

On the Wages & Income screen, scroll to Less Common Income and Show more

Scroll down to Gambling Winnings and Start/Revisit

On the Review your W2-G info screen, delete it by clicking on the trash can.

On the Let’s check for winnings not reported on a W2-G screen, answer yes to Did you (or XXX) receive any other gambling or lottery winnings not reported on a W-2G?.

On the Let’s check for winnings not reported on a W2-G screen, enter your winnings and Continue

On the Let us know if you had any gambling losses in 2022 screen, enter your Gambling Losses and Done.

If you have federal withholding (and/or state) follow the instructions below:

On the left side screen, select Federal then Deductions & Credits

On the Your tax breaks screen, scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid, Show more

Select Income Taxes Paid then Start/Revisit

On the Income Taxes Paid screen, scroll down to Other Income Taxes Paid in 2022 then Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099, Start/Revisit

On the Do you have any withholding you haven’t entered yet? screen, answer Yes

Enter the federal and state withholding amounts (be sure to select your state if applicable)

So if I have multiple W2Gs and the return was rejected due to the EIN error, it’s ok to just add up the total and just keep the W2G for my records? The IRS will accept this? Hopefully because my return keeps getting rejected and it would be much easier to do it this way. Thank you.

The casino may have changed the EIN. Business change their EIN for many situations and it could have changed. Verify that the EIN and name are still correct. Look for a space before the name, anything off.

If you have verified with the casino that the number is correct, you can enter it as if you did not receive the form. From the answer above:

You can enter the winnings without using the W-2G by following the steps below.
