topic Why won't the IRS accept our jointly e-filed return? in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I received the error code "IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database." We downloaded our previous year's returns straight from the IRS and our previous year's AGI that was submitted matches what they have on file. My wife and I are filing jointly this year but filed married filing separately last year. My best guess is there is a software error as a result of our change in filing status. Please let me know if there is another explanation.

there is no software error.

IRS requires that you enter the matching AGI number(s).

Try AGI = 0

if that doesn't work and you can't discover other AGI values, you'll have to file a paper return.

@DanDixon

Replacing my wife's actual AGI from last year's return worked. Thanks to @fanfare for the tip.

There is a problem on either the IRS or TurboTax's side if TurboTax says I need to enter my wife's AGI from last year to e-file and then the user gets a message that the wrong number was entered when I used the exact number the IRS confirmed they have on file. Even if it is purely the IRS's fault TurboTax should correct this so that users are able to e-file without having to hope someone in a forum has a hack for solving the issue by doing something opposite of what the program instructed them to do.
