Go through the TurboTax questions and review your responses. You may have inadvertently answered a question that is not allowing you to file as Head of Household (HOH).

Select My info from the left side menu.

On the Personal info summary screen, scroll down to your dependent and Edit.

On the Who do you support? screen, make a selectin.

Review your responses, especially the Date of birth and Citizenship.

On the Tell us more about XXX living situation last year question, review Did your dependent pay for more than half of their living expenses and other support? If you answered "yes", your dependent is not your dependent if they paid for more than 50% of their living expenses. By answering "yes", TurboTax would not allow you to file using the HOH filing status.

Continue through the TurboTax interview and review each question to make sure you answered it correctly.

If after reviewing your responses, TurboTax is still not allowing you to claim HOH, please review the TurboTax FAQ's Who can I claim as my dependent? and Do I qualify for Head of Household in 2022?

For the purposes of the Head of Household filing status, a qualifying person is a child, parent, or relative who meets certain conditions, listed below. If the person is not related to you, they may be your dependent, but you can't claim head of household based on them.

The conditions are stricter than those for claiming a dependent; for example, you might be able to claim a roommate as your dependent, but never as a qualifying person for Head of Household status.

A qualifying child would be:

Your child (including legally adopted), stepchild, foster child, sibling, half-sibling, step-sibling, or a descendant of any of them (for example, your grandchild or niece) AND

Permanently and totally disabled OR under the age of 19 as of December 31, 2022 (under 24 if a full-time student) and younger than you (or your spouse, if filing jointly) AND

Lived with you for more than half the year AND

Single (or if the child is married, you'd have to qualify to claim them as a dependent even if you're not going to claim them as such).

If your dependent meets all of the tests above, then a question must be answered incorrectly in TurboTax.
