You don't need to enter the conversion amount. You only need to enter the information from your Form 1099-R. After you answered "Yes" to "this money was rolled over to a Roth IRA account" continue and don't go back to the question. When you check Form 1040 it should say rollover and the amount should be on 5b taxable amount.

If this doesn't help what is in your box 2a?

[Edited 2/11/2023 | 9:01 am PST]

@RES731

FYI - If you edit or review a 1099R it does not keep your answers from before but resets them to the defaults. Then you have to go through and answer them all again. So be sure to go all the way to the end of the 1099R section. They are right unless you go back.

thats the issue, it doesnt show the amount as taxable on the 1040 which it should.

If I go back after the next step it is still my correct answer, it is after I complete the section that TT resets my response to No instead of Yes

The problem is TT resets my Yes to No automatically after I complete the section. I tried deleting and re-adding and the same occurs. I cant seem to report this as bugs to TT unless I pay for their help.

Your problem is the form box 7 code g is incorrect if this was a direct rollover from a 401k to a Roth IRA. If that is the case simply change code g to a seven and the program will work correctly.

If box 2a taxable amount has wrongly $0 then you will either have to ask the issuer if they will give you a correct Form 1099-R or you will have to make changes to your Form 1099-R to get TurboTax to report the rollover as taxable. Enter a zero in box 5 and indicate in the follow-up questions that the distribution was rolled over to a Roth IRA. Please see this excellent discussion from dmertz for additional information.
