Please state which code was entered for your Box 12 item that produced the request for additional information. Many of the Box 12 types don't produce any follow-up.

Can you clarify what deduction code you entered (from the linked list) into Box 12 that generated the ''we need more info about box 12'' prompt? Or did you see this screen when you entered data into a different place? Thank you.

It's header: "We need a little more info about box 12".

Box 12 of your w-2 has code G. Is xxxx a state or local government.

I answered yes.

Did you elect to have your employer make contributions to your deferred compensation plan <Link to learn more>.

That link takes me to mortgage insurance.

I would ignore it. Just hit yes to both questions and hit continue. You'll be good to go. I agree that this particular message about mortgage insurance premiums really have no bearing on the contributions made by your employer towards a retirement plan.
