How do I get the instructions for e-filing before I start to do it? I tried e-filing last year but could not get through the process. If the process asks for ANYTHING other than clicking a submit button, I will have to abort and start all over. If they would publish the step by step instructions, I could e-file.

you need your AGI from last year to e-File.

if that fails, try AGI = 0 which may solve your problem

If your return is not ready, Turbotax will point that out and you will have to make it ready.

I'm not filing last year's return, I'm filing this year. I want to read the step by step instructions before initiating the e-file process.

You can read every word in the 3 steps of the FILE tab until the last item which to press the big orange transmit now button ... you can abort at any time until you hit that one button...
