This is correct.

In general, if you only have Social security income and no other income, the SS income is not taxable.

So your SS income shows in box 6a, box 6b is zero because it is not taxable and box 9 is also 0 because there is no taxable income.

If you only get Social Security it is not taxable and you don't need to file a return unless you are married and filing Joint or your spouse is filing Married filing Separate.

Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:..

Married Filing Jointly: $32,000

Single or head of household: $25,000

Married Filing Separately: 0
