I mistakenly included a Form 1099INT for year 2022 in my 2021 federal return. Am wondering if I should amend 2021 return or just not include it (again) in 2022 return and see what happens.

If you have a 1099-DIV for 2022 you should include it on your 2022 tax return. You should not skip it.

If you incorrectly entered on your 2021 tax return it is your decision to amend your return or not.

The IRS will not send you a notice for posting the additional interest.

Amending your return will depend on your tax bracket, and the amount of your 1099-INT.

If your 1099-INT was for $100, and you're single and made $50,000. The refund would be no more than $11.50.

Is that worth amending your return for?

How did you enter it into 2021? You wouldn't have gotten a 2022 1099 INT before you filed 2021. When did you file 2021? If you filed it after Oct. did you use the Desktop program? Online is only for 2022.

I received the 1099INT for a savings bond redeemed in January 2022. When I filed my taxes for 2021 (April 2022) I mistakenly included that Form 1099INT in the 2021 return. (Amount of interest was $1550 interest....on 80k AGI.) Ugh.

Good point....thanks. The INT was !550 on 80k earned. Rookie mistake.

You must include the bond interest on your 2022 tax return. You do not have to wait to do your 2022 tax return, until you amend last year's return. File the 2022 return with confidence.

You need to amend your 2021 tax return to remove the interest. Use the link below to begin the amended 2021 tax return.
