You may receive a message like:

ZIP code is invalid for Electronic Filing. You must enter a valid ZIP code for your state. Enter a correct ZIP code in this format 'nnnnn' or 'nnnnn-nnnn'

TurboTax follows the IRS guidelines for acceptable ZIP codes. If the two-letter state abbreviation doesn't match the ZIP code, you'll receive this error when attempting to e-file.

Solution

If you receive this error:

Double-check you entered the correct two-letter state code
Make sure you've entered the ZIP code in either 5-digit or 9-digit format (for example 12345 or 12345-6789)

You can also try deleting the zip code and re-entering just the first 5 digits.

If that doesn't work, check the zip code for the city and state listed on the form. If the USPS gives you a different zip code, use that one.

Look up the correct ZIP code for the street address in question
