&lt;P&gt;In general, infertility treatments for one or both spouses are considered medical expenses and are deductible per &lt;A href="https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf" target="_self"&gt;IRS Publication 502&lt;/A&gt;.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;I do want to mention one unique scenario: I did find a &lt;A href="https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-wd/202114001.pdf" target="_self"&gt;Private Letter Ruling&lt;/A&gt; from the IRS where a same-sex (both male) married couple was not allowed to deduct expenses for surrogacy and IVF on the surrogate, because the medical expenses were incurred for a third party - the surrogate - and not for either taxpayer.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;But outside of that scenario, I see no reason that infertility treatments purchased for you or your spouse would not be a deductible medical expense.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;My spouse and I have spent a good amount on purchases of donar eggs for our infertility treatments.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; Are we able to deduct them as normal medical expenses, or do we need a special dispensation to do it?&lt;/P&gt;</description>
