BACKGROUND:

I moved from California to Nevada in May 2022. I signed a lease, got a driver's license and registered my car prior to June 30th. My Company was not able to create the proper state forms to remove me from California Payroll taxes until October.

QUESTION:

Am I able to file a 2022 California Tax return to get 100% of my California taxes refunded as I was a Nevada resident for more than 1/2 the year? And if so, do I have to wait until the 2022 tax forms are published?

You would file a part year resident return for California (CA), and would owe tax on the income earned in the time you resided in CA. So, from your post it sounds like the income earned in January thru April would be subject to CA state income tax. The remaining income would not be subject to state income tax from CA, and as Nevada has no income tax, would not be subject to state income tax in Nevada. Any taxes that were with held for CA during the time you resided in Nevada would be eligible for refund. You would file the part year CA resident return with your 2022 return.
