&lt;P&gt;Sounds like you were a resident of California for part of 2022 and a resident of Kentucky for the rest of the year.&amp;nbsp; That would make you a California&amp;nbsp;part-year resident, and you would need to file a California part-year resident return.&amp;nbsp; As a part-year resident you pay tax on:&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;UL&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;All worldwide income received while a California resident (including your 401K distribution)&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;Income from California sources while you were a nonresident&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;/UL&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;A href="https://www.ftb.ca.gov/file/personal/residency-status/part-year-and-nonresident.html" target="_self" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" data-di-id="di-id-5f58cb4b-7d8121a7"&gt;Here is some information&lt;/A&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/SPAN&gt;from the CA FTB that also has some scenarios that may be helpful to you.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I worked and lived in CA for about 3 months and then moved and worked in KY the rest of the year. I only made 5,464 in CA, must I still file CA state taxes if I file Single with no dependents.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
