The copy I have shows Idaho, bit once it's in the system Colorado shows up and will only let me change the zip but then that will not be accurate for the school I attended.

The zip code on your 1098-T must be wrong. TurboTax is just matching the zip code to the state abbreviation and correcting it to Colorado.

You can use the United State Postal Service zip code tools to verify the correct zip code. Click here, and check the full address, or just the city, state and zip code.

Making this correction will not affect the accuracy of your tax return.

Delete the form,
Close the return.
Update the program or clear cache and cookies,
Open and enter the form manually.

I’ve tried that still comes up invalid zip code. It even changes the state and the city’s spelling 🙁 but when I go back to edit it the state is correct and the city is spelled correctly in that area

Is it possible that the zip code entered on your Form 1098-T is incorrect?

TurboTax matches the zip code to the state abbreviation.

Hello,

I am having this issue. I have removed the form and entered it in manually multiple times and also tried uploading an image of the document. Every time it is changing the state to Indiana when it should be Arkansas. I have verified that the correct zip code is on the 1098-T form with the link provided in previous posts. The zip code on the 1098-T form matches the zip code for Clarksville, AR. However, it is still changing it to Clarksville, IN. I have looked up the zip code for Clarksville, IN and it is not even close to the zip code on my 1098-T. How do I fix this issue? I have tried clearing the caches. I don't want to restart everything completely as I have already paid the fee for filing my taxes and it is not a guarantee my issue will be fixed.

TurboTax often incorrectly imports the state on a 1098-T due to auto-parsing errors where the software misinterprets the document layout, even if the zip code is correct. This occurs because the program sometimes fails to match the scanned zip code with the correct state abbreviation, requiring manual correction or deleting the form and re-entering it manually.

Since you stated that you deleted the 1098-T form and manually re-entered it, I would suggest you delete the form once more, close the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and retry. Something appears to be 'sticking' from the original imported form.

I just tried doing what you suggested. I deleted the 1098-T form, closed the program, and cleared my cache and cookies. I then went back into Turbo Tax and manually filled out the 1098-T. However, at review it still changed to Clarksville, IN. I am unsure of what else to do.

If you manually entered your 1098-T, with the correct two-letter state abbreviation and zip code, and you still get a Review error, don't try to change it there, just skip to the next review item or indicate 'done with review'. This should not prevent you from Efiling. The 1098-T is not an income document that the IRS would reject for an address issue.

If you're not getting an Education Credit, you actually don't need to enter your your 1098-T and could delete it from your return; just keep it for your records.
